Art Gallery of New South Wales

Visit to the Art Gallery of New South Wales

The Art Gallery of New South Wales is one of the most famous art museums in Australia. The building was built in 1885 and houses spacious galleries and collections ranging from works by the European masters and Asian artists, to contemporary art from around the different continents.

The gallery also contains one of the largest collections of aboriginal art in Australia. After admiring all the masterpieces, art lovers can relax having a snack at the café or having a meal at the restaurant, or take a look at the gallery gift shop.

At the end of the session, you will have:

  • visited the Art Gallery of New South Wales virtually.
  • listened to two people talking about the best of Australia.
  • thought about what to include in your podcast about a topic of your interest.

Continue with your posts on Twitter (#taskpodcast and #EDIAsydney). Now, you have to visit its official website and take a look at the collection in order to choose which is, in your opinion, the most interesting piece of art.

You can also send a tweet to the Art Gallery of New South Wales saying you have visited it virtually. What has drawn your attention the most? What would you highlight from the Art Gallery?  Send them a tweet: Art Gallery of New South Wales Twitter. The 'Rubric to assess a Tweet' can help you do a good job in this social network.

Remember that the Art Gallery of New South Wales must be part of the route at your Google Sites map.

Australia!

Listen carefully to Rebecca, who talks about the best of Australia and her city, Sydney. After listening, do the vocabulary and quiz activities. You can do this activity in Australia.

After having done the listening activity, you have to answer these questions orally and record your questions and answers in pairs in order to upload the result to your learning diary after having answered them:

  • Would you like to travel to Australia? Why / Why not? Who with?
  • Which places would you like to visit? How long would you like to stay there?
  • Would you like to visit any other country in that part of the world? Where would you go? Apart from Australia, which country would you like to visit in Oceania?

In order to record the answer to these questions, you can use the web WeVideo. Your teacher can help you in all this process and with the pronunciation. After having recorded them, you have to project them in the classroom and your classmates have to assess it using the 'Rubric to assess a video assignment in the classroom'.

Your task: Let's continue the research!

Task Step 2: Starting with the design of your podcast with PodOmatic.

As the task for this project is to record a podcast with the tool PodOmatic about one topic of your interest that you have already chosen, it will be necessary to start looking for the information that you will include in your final product. Remember that, in this project, you have to use the PodOmatic website to record your podcast.

  • Watch how you can use PodOmatic in your podcast.
  • Now, you have to look for some interesting info to complete the text that you will record in your podcast. Your teacher can help you select the most interesting ones.
  • You have to share what you have found with the rest of the class through different means. For example, you can use these Twitter hashtags: #taskpodcast and #EDIAsydney
  • You can organize the brainstorm ideas about your “podcast” and start thinking which data you are going to include in your podcast about the topic of your interest.

The 'Rubric to assess a Tweet' can help you do a good job in this social network.
