Darling Harbour

Lots of fun at Darling Harbour!

Let's continue with our amazing trip to the awesome city of Sydney. Your next stop now is at Darling Harbour which is a district full of shops, restaurants, museums, exhibitions, and entertainment venues. Families will enjoy Madame Tussaud's, the wild life Sydney Zoo, and the Aquarium, which has got the world's largest collection of Australian marine creatures.

Powerhouse Museum offers interactive exhibits on science, technology, design, and history, while a tourist can board a replica of Captain Cook's ship, Endeavour, at the Australian National Maritime Museum.

Younger children will love the carousel, playground, and the water park. Visitors can also choose from different options: an IMAX and 9D theatre, harbour jet boat rides, simulated flights and racing car adventures.

Visiting Sydney is a dream come true for sea lovers!

At the end of the session, you will have:

  • surfed the Darling Harbour website.
  • organized information about Sydney at the Google site.
  • learnt how to use question tags.

Visit the official Darling Harbour website and select your favourite thing to do. What can you do there? Which activity is the most exciting?

Remember that Darling Harbour must be part of the route at your Google Site map.

Continue with your posts on Twitter (#taskpodcast and #EDIAsydney). Write a tweet telling which 'thing to do' you liked the most and why and add the URL of the activity. The 'Rubric to assess a Tweet' can help you do a good job in this social network.

You travelled to Sydney last year, didn't you?

In this project, you are visiting the city of Sydney in Australia. When visiting a new city, it can be quite easy to meet someone from that city in a bar or a restaurant and start a casual conversation. When we speak, it is quite common to use question tags.

Question tags are short questions at the end of sentences and they are mainly used in oral speech when we want to:

  • check that something is true or not, or
  • to encourage an answer from the person we are talking to.

So, in order to better understand what a question tag is, watch the cartoon and answer the questions about it. When you finish, you can check your understanding by doing the proposed activities.

Your task: podcast about a topic of your interest.

Task.  Step 4: Use the PodOmatic website to record your podcast.

In this step of your task, it is time to complete all the details of your script to record the podcast.

As you have to do this task individually, you can share your draft with another classmate and he or she can give you some suggestions in order to improve your final product. Then, you have to give some feedback to another classmate as well.

Your challenge: Sydney at the Google Site

Challenge. Step 5: Organizing the Sydney entry at your Google Site

At this step, you have to finish the Sydney entry at the Google Site.

Each group ( 2 / 3 people) has to organize the information you have searched about Sydney at your Google Site. Creativity in the distribution of the contents is very important. The requirements to finish the entry are:

  • some text about what to do in the city,
  • and two links to printable guides, leaflets, brochures.

If you and your group consider that you can add more details to these requirements, you can freely add them to your site.

Learning Diary

Learning Diary. Step 5: Posting the link to your group's Google Site about the Sydney Challenge.

At this step, you have to write a post at your blog where you share the link of your challenge about Sydney city. You also have to include a summary of which aspects you have changed, which you have kept and why.
